This pack is worn much of the time during outdoor activities. It carries water (120 oz), A extendable Baton, an Extra Digital Camera, Spare AA Batteries (6-12), Sunglasses (prescription), Spare Pistol Magazines (2), Gook Aid, Energy Bars, Peanuts, 550 Cord, LED Lights, Simple First Aid Supplies (Gauze, Tape), Knife, pouch for Radio / GPS. I wrap a Shemagh (scarf) through the carry handle on top of the bag when it is not around my neck keeping the sun off. This bag weighs almost nothing even when it it full of water

We had a chance to photograph this interesting and well made pocket knife from SOG Specialty Knives. This folding knife uses the SOG Arc-Actuator lock and has S.A.T. (SOG Assisted Technology). While it is not an automatic (switchblade) it is very easy to open one handed. The grip has the SOG Digi-Grip texture pattern so it is easy to hold and use

IDL Tools T-10 and the Leatherman Squirt P4 side by side. These are two pocket pliers we have been reviewing. The two are about the same size when open and weight. But when closed the Leatherman Squirt P4 is slimer and more comfortable. The Leatherman Squirt P4 is just under 1-inch wide, 2-1/4-inches long, 4 inches long when open, 1/2-inch thick. The IDL Tools T-10 is 1-1/4-inch wide, just over 2-inches long 4 inches long when open and just over 1/4-inch thick. The IDL Tools T-10 weighs 1.8 ounces, the Leatherman Squirt P4 Pocket Pliers weighs 2.1 ounces. The IDL Tools T-10 jaw opens wider to a little over an inch, the Leatherman Squirt P4 open to only a bit less than an inch.

The always useful 550 cord (parachute cord) has many uses and will continue to have more. It's been around for many years (since WW2) and continues to be an important and useful tool. 550 cord is a Kernmantle rope which is a rope constructed with its interior core (the kern) protected with a woven exterior sheath (mantle) This design provides strength, durability, and flexibility.

We saw these Sampo Ball Berring Swivels at a local fishing tackle shop. These heavy duty ball berring swivels are made for salt water fishing. I thought of about a dozen uses for these when I saw them; key rings, attaching loops of 550 cord to knives and tools, flashlight attachments, digital cameras and cell phones. The larger swivels have solid (welded) rings and look to be very heavy duty

I saw the instructions for this on the internet and figured I would give it a try. I was not about to buy a French Knitting Spool so I made one with some spare parts (a PVC fitting, some chop sticks and some twine). I read that the braid (knit) could be done with
two or more posts along the spool, so I started with 3, it worked easily so I added more pegs to end up with six. At that point I glued the pegs in place so the knitting spool stays together for a while. This process could be useful occasionally

Many say that 550 cord is about the most usefull thing to have in a survival kit. It can be used for building shelter, starting fire, catching food and repairs among endless other uses. This Bianchi Military Magazine Pouch works well for a Digital Camera. This pouch is designed for two high cap pistol magazines, but it also works well to carry and protect this Kodak C713 digital camera. The Camera is held securely and is protected in this pouch. I saw these 3 oz pouch Salmon pouches at the store and bought a few to try them out. I am not afraid of food in a pouch like some old timers. I've eaten my share of MREs, and the foil pouch tecnology is much lighter and more compact which makes food in puuches good for storage and packing along on hikes, camping trips, etc.

This Salmon was prety good. You could taste the salt, in fact it was almost like a slice of ham. A good size for a snack or adding ot a meal. I will be buying more next time I see them at the store These cost me $1 each. It has a 'use by' date of 12-2010 (more than two years from now)

These durable bottles have been popular with outdoor enthusiasts for years. The wide mouth works great for mixing powdered drinks and adding ice cubes.
